Kathmandu: Nepal has received Rs 763.08 billion in remittances during the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to a report released by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday.
The mid-term review report highlighted that remittance inflows grew by 4.1 percent compared to the same period last year. However, this growth is significantly lower than the 22.2 percent increase recorded in the previous year.
Similarly, net secondary income (net transfer) reached Rs 832.76 billion, marking a 4.2 percent increase. This, too, reflects a slowdown compared to the 21.1 percent increase observed in the same period last year.
The report further revealed that 230,439 Nepalis obtained first-time approvals for foreign employment, an 11.7 percent rise from last year. Meanwhile, 162,628 Nepalis renewed their labor permits, reflecting a 21.4 percent increase over the same period.
Despite the remittance-driven economy, the balance of payment (BoP) surplus stood at Rs 249.26 billion, lower than the Rs 273.52 billion surplus recorded during the same period last year.
